Animal adoptions and sponsoring an animal make great gifts for friends and family and help ensure the welfare of endangered animals too.

Adopt a "wild animal?"
There's no such thing as a good organization adopting wild animals to private homes.

If you're actually looking for a pet check out your local animal shelter, animal specific rescue, or even check out http://www.petfinder.com/
Also remember the adoption price is generally the cheapest part of owning any animal.

Add:
Figurative adopting to help save wildlife you mean?:
Have you seen this website by chance?
https://secure.defenders.org/site/SPageServer?pagename=wagc_homepage#AllAnimals
Donations are from $20 on up, with different options for each animal available.
There are a lot of websites that only "adopt" one species of animal out as well- So if we knew if you were looking for something specific it may be easier to help may you.
Some wildlife reserves, zoos, and what not will also offer "adoptions" from time to time but generally only to local residence.

I would suggest in the future to be a bit clearer as well- There are many people out there that do indeed believe (wrongly in my opinion) that it's perfectly acceptable to bring a wild animal into their home as a pet.
